This article describes the transformations that impacted sociology and other training programs in the social sciences and the humanities since the 2000s. The disciplinary lens used here sheds light on strong polarizations related to the evolving volume and the type of diplomas delivered by the various curricula. The disciplines of the social sciences and the humanities are thus classified into three categories : the academic disciplines, the academic disciplines being technicized, and the technical disciplines. Statistical analysis reveals the attraction exercised by technical disciplines, allegedly due to their capacity to prepare students better for the job market. The article also shows that the degree to which the social sciences and the humanities respond to this influence depends upon persisting social factors that inform their different orientations and their functions.
