This paper deals with the relationship between young people and social workers. It shows what is at stake when young people are categorized according to the position of the actors in the sphere of professional practice. We will show that modes of taking charge of the young vary according to the types of organization and to the stance adopted by social workers. This study is based on 90 interviews with professionals who deal with young people, concerning the organization of their working methods.
