The aim of this article is to study the relation to the future of young people in stable employment (with permanent contracts in private sector firms) through their relationship to a career, particularly in proximity management positions. Access to in-house promotion is a structuring dimension of individual work experiences, offering a professional horizon and conditioning forms of commitment in work. Three different attitudes regarding the career can be distinguished among these young people : the desire to obtain promotion, management of the gap between their initial aspirations and the concrete reality of their career, and the non-aspiration to promotion.
