Due to the arrival of medical methods for women, an image of disengaged men has spread gradually. Nevertheless, some men feel concern about controlling fertility and among them, some want to share contraceptive responsibilities.
On the one hand, some of them use a contraceptive. Today, four methods – each with different effectiveness – are available for men: abstinence, interrupted intercourse, vasectomy and condom. Some men have also experimented hormonal or thermal contraception, but due to economical and cultural barriers, it could not have been developed.
On the other hand, men’s contraceptive involvement is not just linked with specific masculine methods, and can also take other forms: they can go with their partner to the gynaecologist, involve themselves in the choice of the contraceptive, remind their partner to be on the pill, search for some information, etc. This behaviour is possible thanks to their own experience and a feminine speech in favour of their sensitisation.
