Description
Created in 1960, Cahiers d’Études africaines is an international, interdisciplinary, and bilingual (French and English) journal offering previously unpublished articles that both reflects key trends in theoretical and field research and presents the debates such research provokes. Our thematic issues are true reference works focusing on a region, issue, or the current state of a discipline.
While remaining resolutely interdisciplinary, the journal favors an anthropological and historical approach and deals with Africa in its broadest sense, from the West Indies to the African populations of the Americas.
Cahiers d’Études africaines is a quarterly journal published by the EHESS with the support of the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) and the Centre national du livre.
Electronic Editions
The complete collection of previous issues, from 1960 to 1999, is available on the Persée website. The full text and PDF facsimile of articles published in or after 2001are made available on the Cairn website three years or more after their original date of publication.
Objectives
Since its creation in 1960, Cahiers d’Études africaines has made it a point to publish original articles of exceptional quality that present key trends in theoretical and field research.
Placed within the scope of the social sciences, and more particularly the fields of anthropology and history, the journal deals with all subjects related to Africa, the West Indies, and the African populations of the Americas.
In addition to its trademark Varia (issues, every year the journal publishes a special report (single, double, or triple issue) dedicated to a specific theme. The purpose of this special report is to provide an overview of a specific field of African studies. Contributions dealing with other cultural areas are also welcomed in order to provide new perspectives.
The role of Cahiers d’Études africaines is to serve as a forum for social science research on Africa while refusing to remain imprisoned within a specific cultural arena.
The fact that it publishes articles in both French and English contributes to the journal’s recognition on an international level.
