The entirely justified importance of the theme of the “body-subject” does, however, ignore the problematic status of this notion that, while invoked to resolve the initial dualism of modern philosophy, perpetuates it in certain respects. Through an analysis of Merleau-Ponty’s Phenomenology of Perception, we propose highlighting how the body is the actual site of this ambiguity, and what conceptual conditions are required to ensure that the examination of its augmentation does not in turn succumb to dualism and an accompanied fantasized mastery.
