This article presents the reflective analysis of a field survey of online student prostitution. Returning to the exploration of the development of the data collection methods chosen, as well as aspects from the research results, it shows how the researcher involuntarily carried out ethnographic fieldwork as a participant-observer, not becoming fully aware of his role until the final weeks of research. Aside from the researcher’s inability to master the entirety of his fieldwork, this experience shows how reflexivity can contribute to enriching empirical material by revealing “new” data. These elements also contribute to discussion of the mobilization of the ethnographic method in cyberspace.
