Based on family therapy work in the Paris suburbs, the author addresses the mechanisms of social stigmatisation towards single-parent families. The article suggests basing family therapy in this context on a direct approach to destigmatisation – the single-parent family is a true family – that involves activating and elaborating a realm of imagination around the family so as to again discover the possibilities for evolution centred on autonomy and solidarity.
