This article reviews the notions of e-exclusion and digital illiteracy found in the literature regarding the digital divide. As interesting as they are, these notions give little importance to the socialisation processes of con-nected computer users, processes which nevertheless shape their digital practices. The concept of digital capital, which is better able to take into account the social depth of the frameworks of use, allows us to better consider the links between digital practices and socialisation dynamics. To fully compare these two aspects, it is useful to work on a problemati-sation of the social uses of digital technology that is attentive to users’ dispositions. It favours the understanding of the uses of connected IT at the intersection of the social properties of actors, situations and technolo-gies.
