Radicalities are concerning, particularly those of our adolescents. Yet radicality, this quest for an ideal and an ideality, should be interpreted from the point of view of necessity. Adolescence is a fundamental moment of engagement, in the sense of the subjective appropriation of a reality that has been, up until that point, contemplated or endured. The adolescent forcefully informs us that he or she is of our world, and is therefore legitimate to act upon it and upon us. We must welcome and support this movement with lucidity and kindness, respect and curiosity.
