The attachment theory developed by John Bowlby (1969) attempts to describe the dynamics of interpersonal relations over a long period. Bowlby considered that attachment was a motivational system among others such as the exploratory and caregiving systems. The young child has at his disposal innate attachment behaviour which enables him to close up with his attachment figure when distressed.Repeating these interpersonal experiences with his principal and alternative attachment figures enable an operating internal model constructing representations with self and others to be elaborated.Ainsworth (1978) elaborated the « strange situation », a procedure by which several styles of attachment considered as risk or protection factors could be differentiated.
