The Atlantic Watersports Games attract hundreds of young athletes from the regions and the Celtic countries of the Atlantic Area on an annual basis. This event seems original among other regional sports games. Referring initially to the imbrication of sports and culture as a focal point, these games have experienced a singular process of sportivization. Built on the ideal of a shared maritime dimension and promoting forms of athletic competition that include intercultural exchanges, they claim to be places for experimentation and innovation for the contemporary sports model.
