Many of the issues that trouble society today are understood in terms of domination and identity struggles. This includes sexual, gender, ethnic, cultural, national, and religious identities. Claims of identity spread by denouncing oppressions and through new forms of censorship. Sociologist Nathalie Heinich analyzes the sources and pitfalls of this new intellectual and political configuration.
