The expanding range of available digital reading devices raises questions about the reading process itself. While these devices become increasingly familiar, understanding the ways in which they are actually used for reading remains difficult. This article examines the scholarly reading practices of university lecturers, and their use of different digital devices. Using a comprehensive approach, we highlight the importance of considering reading activities within specific contexts in order to gain better understanding of how innovations in digital reading devices are appropriated by readers.
