In a context marked by job insecurity and by overabundant and complex degree program offerings, career guidance companies’ websites present information, rankings and evaluation metrics aimed at facilitating program choices. Webpage editorialization highlights often ambiguous rankings by means of stars and recognition systems (accreditation and labelling). These evaluation systems are represented by logotypes which co-construct the degree programs’ reputational authority. As both key regulator and actor of the higher education sector, the French state has created its own logos. These logos, widely adopted by French universities, reveal the strategic appropriation of the principles of a “degree marketplace”.
