We propose a reflective view on two project-grounded studies conducted in the context of doctoral research. We consider the benefits and limitations of this participatory research approach in the fields of health and disability, in particular with regard to sleep disorders and autism spectrum disorders. We show that the value of project co-design is especially apparent within these sensitive fields, in which stakeholder inclusion constitutes a fundamental issue.
