Each annual issue of Extrême-Orient Extrême-Occident is devoted to a single theme or a central question dealing with Chinese civilization and its cultural sphere of influence (China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam).
Recent issues focused on divination, garden culture, politics, entertainment and the existence of a Chinese philosophy. Contributors examine a common topic from a wide variety of angles and disciplinary approaches. Each volume concludes with an “other perspective” which offers a comparative comment on the subjects explored through the lens of Western traditions.

This bilingual journal (French and English) was founded by François Jullien (1982)
