The Web today provides the general public with coexisting means of access to an endless variety of information (indexes, thesauruses, ontologies, authority lists, folksonomies, hierarchical classifications, faceted classification). After a brief overview of the use of classification systems as an access and navigation tool, we discuss approaches that give priority to the organization of results by theme. We then look into the contribution of information mapping to explore and model different points of view on a corpus of documents.
