This article discusses how filing and storing contributes to the appropriation of knowledge by users of a document center in the light of the theory of instrumental genesis. This theory defines a dual process of instrumentation / instrumentalization and is called upon here to support an analysis of four educational sessions given by teachers of librarianship to introduce students to the use of document centers, from the point of view of the uses brought to light by the teachers.
