During the latter half of the twentieth century, the notion of information has been conceptualised, whether implicitly or explicitly, on the basis of the duo information/communication. Information and communication are consubstantial. And their relationship is constructed in the field of the social sciences and humanities. This is the point of view defended from the very first issue of the journal Hermès, devoted to political communication. It is impossible to examine information and information processing without viewing them from the perspective of dissemination, in other words in terms of communication as the horizon of expectation. Conversely, any communication process implies identifying informational content that is destined to be transmitted.
