English
The sudden return of tragedy had made it improper to continue to support the widespread attitude wherein the “Other Europe” is treated with a form of condescension. Viewed as “little nations with uncertain identities” and “Europe’s periphery,” these countries have responded by according a superior legitimacy to their own discourse, on the basis of their having suffered and endured a tragic historical experience. The war in Ukraine has perhaps put an end to this sort of double condescension.
