In 1989, Europeans had the ambition of reunifying a continent that had been split by the cold war. Enlargement policy, peace, and political liberalism were to redraw the outline of Europe. However, the disputes that have accumulated between Europeans and Russians since then have made the exporting of European stability to its neighbors seem to be an illusory project. The war in Ukraine is the grand disillusion that signals the end of Europe as we know it.
