CAIRN-INT.INFO : International Edition

Description

A journal of geography and geopolitics that focuses on the analysis of power rivalries in specific territories (a country or regional geographical area), that give rise to conflict and contradictory representations of various protagonists.

Objectives

Each issue focuses on a precise geopolitical situation or theme (war, ecology, globalization, etc.). The journal’s geopolitical approach is based on case studies of power rivalries for the control of a territory and the examination of the contradictory representations of different protagonists. The journal addresses the traditional geopolitical issue of power rivalries between States, but also examines the rivalries that can exist within a single State or in smaller territories, like cities and neighborhoods. These power rivalries can sometimes involve the study of particularly complex situations, and thus call for different levels of analysis.

Precise maps illustrating different levels of analysis are provided to accompany the articles.

The editorial committee seeks to implement a scientific approach to assist in the understanding of increasingly complex and dynamic situations. This approach takes into consideration the precise geographical characteristics of the territories involved and the viewpoints of various protagonists. These viewpoints, whether true or false, are often those used to mobilize populations concerned.

The journal focuses on innovative fields of research (cyberspace, geopolitical mapping) and subjects whose geopolitical dimension may be less apparent but which are nevertheless essential, like women.

The authors (geographers, political scientists, economists, historians, anthropologists) are recognized specialists territorial conflicts.
