French on OpenEdition Journals

Description

Since 1986, Histoire & Mesure has published articles that go beyond divisions of discipline and chronology to focus on history and measurement. The journal intends to not oppose critical views of measurement and not to separate methodology and history. To do so, it combines two complementary approaches. “History of measurement” and statistics offers reflections about the content and pertinence of data, the conditions of their production, and the classification into categories that have their own separate history. “Measurement of history” provides statistical data processing tools and the various ways numbers are used to measure historic phenomena of all kinds (from climate to cultural history to social, economic, and political history, etc.).

Through mutual consideration of sources and methods, contributions and limitations, and the history of our statistical tools, the journal actively contributes to the progress of historical research.

The journal is published by Éditions de l’EHESS with the support of the CNRS.
