The announcement that women were to arrive on the frigate Montcalm was seen as heralding great disturbances in that world of male sailors and soldiers. Nothing of the sort happened. The introduction of women inevitably resulted in perceptible changes in life and work on board, but they were not necessarily the ones expected. Basically, the sailors responded to the introduction of female personnel by making practices more uniform. As they say: “There are no women on board; only sailors!”
