In 1990, the “Louis Dirn” group had identified sixty main trends of social change for the French society between 1965 and 1985. A matrix was built to analyze the causal relationships between these trends. Ten years after, the trends were revised in order to focus on the 1975-1995 period and a new matrix was built. Comparing these two matrices, stability happens to be quite salient. Based upon a similarity analysis, seven clusters of trends arise in each period. Though there are not perfectly identical between the two periods, the same global logic holds. Beyond the methodological conclusions deriving from this result, it follows that the elementary trends fit together in a quite balanced global scheme of social change.
