In its first part, the article reviews several methodological tools for the inquiry in moral sociology, which are reconstructed from the main trends of the sociological tradition: historical genealogy, study of values, social obligation, social functions and justifications. The second part focuses on the conceptual ways for identifying the moral, immoral or indifferent (i.e. neither moral or immoral) features of the social facts. It propounds three kinds of criteria: justice of others, undue suffering, semantic of virtues and other moral terms.
