This paper’s aim is to account for the mechanisms underlying out moral intuition. Our moral intuitions show certain patterns (precocity, universality, specificity, automaticity and irrepressibility) suggesting that the cognitive system of moral intuition processing may be modular. Furthermore, this hypothesis is backed by two different arguments : the poverty of the stimulus argument and the moral residues argument. However, contemporary theories of moral modularity stumble against the conceptual nature of the moral system, as well as the role of emotions in moral intuitions. The thesis defended here is that the “naive morals” approach of moral modularity could help us to account for moral intuition.
