The era of Enlightenment has distinguished between law and ethics, hence Max Weber’s notion of axiologic neutrality. But ethics seems now to be linked with pluralism and therefore does demand from law being itself enhanced. From that follows a new proximity between law and ethics, and social science takes a part in this relative nearness. However, an overstated moralisation of law is liable to engender collateral effects.
