“Esthetical life”, the dénouement Gabriel Tarde gave to his anticipation “tale” “Underground”, leads one to ponder his reflections on the artistic domain. The last chapter of “Social Logic”, entitled “Art”, is the ultimate text that reviews the hypotheses expressed by Tarde in his archives and published work. This last text allows us to draw out the notions of esthetic need, production and art consumption which, correlated to the determination of the piece of art as a monad and to the repetition-opposition-adaptation structure, lead to the conclusion that the art sphere and its modes of functioning are but an empirical extension to the founding principles of Tarde’s system which he developed mainly in Laws of imitation, Social Logic and Monadology and Sociology.
