Social cohesiveness is a political issue since the 80's but this is not paralleled in scientific sociological studies. We use the “European Social Survey” (4th edition, 2008) to synthesize typical individual conceptions of social cohesiveness in France. The respondents' judgments about social policies, social solidarity and interrelation between groups and communities within the national boundaries display typical attitudes regarding social cohesiveness. Distinct specific factors—all of which can be held crucial fundamental in the build-up of social cohesiveness—prevail in these typical attitudes. This study highlights consistent are revealed by this survey.
