In taking up the position of director of L’Année sociologique, Durkheim takes yet another crucial step in the creation of social science. Assisted in this task by Mauss and Hubert, he regards the sociological explication of religious phenomenon as a condition essential for the demystification of the social realm. It is thus no surprise that he devotes a section of the journal to religious sociology, which should henceforth be seen as the core of Durkheimian sociology. On taking over direction of the journal from his mentor, Mauss retains this section. It is our intention in this article to follow, through the pages of L’Année sociologique, the evolution of Durkheimian religious sociology.
