La Pensée was founded in the spring of 1939, in a spirit that prefigured that of the French Resistance, and was born of the desire, against the backdrop of rising peril, to combat obscurantism and to champion a modern form of rationalism. Today, La Pensée is published by the Fondation Gabriel Péri. Through the wide range of subjects it tackles and the far-reaching fields of expertise of its contributors, it strives to nurture the reflections of men and women holding diverse sets of beliefs and opinions, who actively support or take an interest in human emancipation in the face of existing relations of exploitation and social domination.
