The shelter and social and mental health care of young isolated foreigners confounds and challenges our practices, inviting us to modify our shelter and care facilities. This research forms part of the pilot study “Action Research on the Transcultural Skills of Professionals Working with Isolated Minors” initiated by Université Paris 13 and Université Paris Descartes. Collection of the qualitative data was carried out over three semi-structured interviews. Twenty-four young people were included. We conceived an original method of mediation based around three objects brought in by the young person to help give his or her personal narrative, which had often been mutilated by trauma. The main aim of this research is to evaluate how the discourse of young people changes during this interview, using a method of qualitative (narrative and thematic) analysis, and has established a framework of analysis for the objects they bring with them. The results show that this method has facilitated access to their stories, to the expression of their experiences, and to the singular representation of each of them.
