LANGAGE & SOCIÉTÉ was founded in 1977 by a group of young scholars under the direction of Pierre Achard. The journal has contributed to the creation and international development of sociolinguistics and discourse analysis. Langage & Société publishes articles from different methodologies, theories and disciplines (sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, conversation analysis, linguistic anthropology). The papers published in our journal share an interest for the complexity of social situations in which the exercise of language (written, oral, multimodal) is involved: plurilingual urban situations, linguistic and interactional variation, language at work, categorization practices, etc.

The publication contributes to the international development of the disciplines of sociolinguistics and discourse analysis. It has acquired international renown due both to its authors, more than half of whom are from countries other than France, and its readers who hail from all over the world.
