From institutional sources (minutes of the ORTF Board of Directors and its News Commission, administrative notes, directives and press bulletins) and audiovisual archives, this article questions the setting up and the limits of “The Chaban-Delmas / Desgraupes Experience” (1969-1972), first attempt to liberalize French broadcasting. The aim is to highlight the internal functioning of news control by identifying its main characteristics but also, by extending the analysis to the media system, in order to understand the role of the press in scandalization about cases of censorship and the promoting of the liberalization of the ORTF as a new cause.
