René Worms launched one of the first book series dedicated to sociology, the “Bibliothèque sociologique international” in the mid-1890s. It was particularly productive during its first years then declined. Worms wanted to establish a specific editorial space for sociology, and this article attempts to distinguish the main characteristics of the book series while considering the new editorial market for the social sciences at that time, and more specifically the competition with Alcan. The international dimension of the book series was a success (more quantitative than qualitative), with a majority of foreign authors, even though some major French sociologists preferred to be published elsewhere. It must also be noted that most of the authors were members of the learned societies created by René Worms and that the foreign authors were mostly academics. Finally, this collection was pluralistic from a theoretical perspective, Worms choosing to publish all the major sociological currents of his time, beyond organicism which was dominant during the first years.
