For the 15.8% of the population without health cover, and the growing number of people with precarious health insurance, the charity sector offers last-chance access to health care, the quality of which is, fortunately, not proportional to the cost. This sector, which has become increasingly dedicated to compensating for the withdrawal of the Federal State in terms of health, has developed owing to a tradition of voluntary work deeply rooted in American society, and due to the support provided by firms or wealthy individuals through their different foundations.
