The ideal healthcare system is, of course, a utopia. To get closer to it, it is important to remember that good health depends not only on medicine but also–and perhaps first and foremost–on the reduction of social and cultural inequalities and ensuring that society acts against harmful behaviors. Medicine has been able to transform numerous, formerly deadly conditions into chronic diseases which justifies the considerable attention given to the quality of healthcare. As for the funding of this system, it must stop generating deficits for which future generations will have to pay.
