This article aims to study ecological economics with its various trends. In this context, the focus is on “social ecological economics”, based on a heterodox political and institutional economy with strong sustainability. The aim is also to show the contributions of “social ecological economics” to the analysis of a contemporary environmental policy instrument, namely “payments for environmental services” (PES) in developing countries.
