This article traces the history of the study carried out alongside Max Pagès, Michel Bonetti, and Daniel Descendre. It describes the consequences of this research through different interactions with executives, trade unionists, and occupational health doctors at this multinational corporation. Over the last four decades, this hypermodern organization has moved from management by excellence to management by terror—one illustration among others of the shift from an industrial capitalism focused on the antagonism between capital and labor to a financial capitalism giving rise to paradoxical organizations.
