Managerial violence is now entering the psychiatric hospital space. Healthcare professionals are at the forefront of the managerial changes to hospitals, and users are concerned too. Based on a one-year field survey in two psychiatric institutions and about one hundred interviews with healthcare professionals and users of public hospital psychiatry, this article describes, from a clinical perspective, the process of renewing psychiatric control. It demonstrates the way in which a boundary is constructed between caregivers and care-receivers and opens up prospects for ending this deadly process.
