This article proposes to address the question of control within organizations, in the context of the evolution of institutional and societal logics from discipline to control. The authors base the article on the symptomatic emergence of “positive” psychology and their clinical work as supervisors in institutions; they aim to shed light on the tendency toward self-control, which benefits organizations. In this way, the authors define the notion of control according to its psychopathological aspects. They then illustrate how the present societal mechanism leads both to action in the individual subconscious and to a strengthening of the cognitive valences of empathy. This leads them to propose and discuss the paradoxical expression of operational empathy as a reflection of the contemporary metamorphoses at work.
