Employers have an incontestable advantage in that most of the forms of contestation related to work play out in their favor. This is particularly the case because work is both essential for making a living and represents a collective and individual issue in terms of meaning, identity, and values. Moreover, employers’ regular mea culpas allow them to maintain and renew their dominance without really changing. They thus produce a managerial model that personalizes subordination and discredits professionalism. This article aims to analyze these two aspects of managerial control.
