Long-term care centers (chsld), which accommodate people with a significant loss of autonomy, can be analyzed as paradoxical organizations, in which an ideological control over care workers operates around two axes. On the one hand, there is an increase in the discrepancies between quality standards and workload. On the other hand, there is an individualization of the relationship with the activity and the standards, which produces a strong feeling of guilt among the care workers, given their inability to comply with these instructions. Care workers can create and use strategies to bend the rules, but this is more likely to benefit the organization, accentuating the care workers’ sense of guilt.
