The author of this article aims to discuss the social representation of coaching, illustrated by a clinical vignette and a literature review. First, based on a clinical vignette, the article provides an example illustrating the nature of an individual’s request to seek a coach. Second, the author seeks to illustrate the dynamic and the sequence of work carried out between the practitioner and the subject seeking a coach. Next, the author discusses the porous boundaries between psychotherapy and coaching. Finally, the article presents the role of psychic suffering, psychoanalysis, and more specifically the notions of transference and suggestion in coaching.
