CAIRN-INT.INFO : International Edition

Description

Civic participation in negotiations, public debate, and consultation for decision-making has become a central and multidisciplinary topic of research in the humanities and social sciences, compelling the launch of a journal that reflects the diversity of this research.

Participations is an interdisciplinary journal that brings together perspectives and contributions from the various disciplines concerned (sociology, political science, philosophy, history, urban studies, geography, social psychology, information sciences, communication studies, economics, etc.) on the common topic of public participation in collective decision-making within contemporary democracies, without restriction to any single theoretical or methodological approach. The journal's creation is part of an ongoing structuring of this research field, as evidenced by the emergence of a French Scientific Interest Group entitled “Public Participation, Decision-Making, and Participatory Democracy” (Participation du public, décison, démocratie participative) which actively supports the journal. Participations is open to both theoretical and empirical contributions concerning participatory democracy, conditions of deliberation, the transformation of forms and practices of citizenship, the structuring of the public sphere, urban governance, public engagement in decision-making processes, social, technical, or medical democracy, socio-technical debates, and the evaluation of participatory tools and devices. Participations is a French language journal that aims to foster exchange between various research communities (France, Belgium, Quebec, Switzerland, etc.) but also welcomes contributions from non-French-speaking researchers.
