According to Menachem Begin’s doctrine, Israel should never accept having a State that owns nuclear weapons and denies the fact as a neighbor. But even in Israel, an increasing number of politicians, experts and analysts dispute the veracity of an “existential threat” from Iran. As a result of this, as well as the technical difficulties linked to the development of an anti-Iranian attack force, Benjamin Netanyahu seems set to move the country away from the “Begin doctrine.” Political solutions now seem to be favored, over the original threat of an Israeli retort.
