Before the emergence of COVID-19, the international community expected to be able to eradicate extreme poverty by 2030. The health crisis has radically changed the situation. Depending on the calculation methods used, the increase in the number of people in poverty in 2020 is estimated to be between 100 and 500 million. The fight against poverty has suffered a setback that will not be remedied in the short and medium term. The 2030 goal to eradicate poverty is no longer achievable.
