“Natives” in Politics

The article reconsiders an assumption on which political science relies : the similarity between one’s place of residence and place of vote. Drawing from ethnographic, historical and statistical data, it emphasizes the continuous presence of non-resident voters and elected representatives in French small mountain communities. It analyzes the mobility of those who do not vote in their municipality of residence but in the one in which they are “natives” and the political mobilizations that support it.
